CMTF Training & Certification Programs
Start you training with CMTF programs and get a good foundation that will last and prepare you for our certifications
We have a new CM Track and Level VI certification specifically designed for Service Oriented Configuration Management. There is a difference between "Engineering CM and Service CM. In this course you will lean both, but the focus here is on CM during Operations and In-Service. This Track is currently comprised of one course, two days in length. Certification will be granted at the end of the second day, following completion of the course and passing the certification exam. third day. This new course is going to be a very popular class.
We have a CM Track and Level IV certification specifically designed for anyone trying to implement a 649-B compliant CM Program or tailor 649-1 CM requirements for a contract. This Track is comprised of one course, three days in length. Certification will be granted at the end of the third day. This is a very popular class. It will incorporate the latest interactive hands-on learning techniques using innovative new tools. Everyone is welcome, there are no prerequisites.
To add value to an enterprise an employee needs grounding in core values, the ability to multitask, think for themselves, stay focused on the mission and goals of the organization, and have the right skill sets for the job. When it comes to Configuration Management, it actually takes about five years of hands on experience to fully develop the core CM skills. I have actually had students with 25 years of experience come to my class and get value out of it. CM consultants, other CM speakers, and people developing courses go through our programs.
But more importantly, what we are known for and where we really shine is doing more with less time, quickly moving a student’s professional development forward and preparing them to go back to work more productive. We understand the work environment and our programs are designed to do more with less time. We quickly mentor CM managers and specialists in a few courses, including new hires. These days, people no longer work their way up the ranks of an organization. Frequently, they are thrown in the CM Manager or Specialist job with very little experience. I see this every day in my classes.
This is why I strongly recommend you start your CM and DM training with our programs before moving on to specialized training on any particular initiative, tool, or model. When you start with specialized training, the student typically returns to work and feels lost. Another problem with specializing, when they move out of their comfort zone onto a new program, tool, initiative, they lack a foundation to fall back on. To help, CMTF has started development of new first of a kind CM and DM planning and implementation tools. But starting with the right training is the key.
When you start with our training, students leave the class with the confidence they can work in any CM capacity because they have a grasp and understanding of the core elements and principles, not just book knowledge. And they will also get more out of any future training wherever that may be.
I personally recommend you start with the Basic and Advanced Level I program. Only takes a week, will give you the equivalent of years of hands on experience. This should be followed by the Software Level II program, which is only a two day course. And those with a few years in CM should continue with the Enterprise Level III program, also just another two days of training. I also highly recommend the new Technical Data Management course. It is for everyone, and has no prerequisites. Certification is optional.
But those that achieve our certification, you will receive a numbered and sealed certificate, and your name will be kept in our certification registry, which we call the ISCM registry, which stands for International Society of Configuration Management. ISCM is our official log of everyone that we certify. It is very common today for employers and Government agencies to require all personnel working in CM to be certified. When verification is required, CMTF handles all inquiries into certification status and provides proof of certification. In the absence of college degrees certification has become the preferred way to check a person’s qualification in our field.
Some organizations hand out certifications like popcorn at a show ... students complete a course or answer a few questions, get 60% correct, and when training is over they claim to be "CM certified." We feel that devalues all real certifications and is doing the CM community a disservice. Certification should not be a memory test of cancelled standards, nor should it be so easy that someone could walk off the street, sit through a course, and achieve certification. You must earn our certification. But we will be right there with you and taking on the responsibility of mentoring our students, passing on the understanding they need to pass our certification exams. Our pass rate is over 90%, and our tests take from one to three hours to complete. We are the first and longest running non-mil-standard memorization CM certification available. And we have certified more CM professionals than all of our competitors combined. We are the model they copied. Why not get your certification from the original.
As I have said many times, a certification to a particular CM model lasts only as long as that model is relevant. When time requires rebranding, that certification becomes worthless. Consequently, we don’t certify to a model. We teach traditional CM which will always stay revelant, like the laws of physics.
