All CMTF CM & DM course offerings cover implementation of Configuration Management in the new AI ecosystem.
Back in 2002, I was invited into a small company in San Jose, California, to do some Configuration Management training. At that time, no one would have imagined that NVIDIA would someday figure out how to use the GPU parallel processing capabilities in their graphics boards to ignite the AI revolution. The strategic inflection point came when they managed to significantly reduce the power requirements of their chips. This made it possible to train Large Language Models quickly.
The world of AI is moving at lightning speed. Organizations are busy implementing AI in all their business processes. The amount of profit, cost savings, and new business that organizations can achieve by using AI is unprecedented. The internet broadly deployed made society about 10% more productive. It is estimated that with AI broadly deployed, that number could rise to 20% or 50%. Many repetitive tasks are being replaced, processes are becoming increasingly autonomous, all to satisfy customers and generate more business. However, all these different AI technologies also create complexity, because how do you manage all these different AI agents and maintain an overview?
Truth be told, many organizations are still struggling with digital transformation, things like how to implement DevOps, Rapid Development, Model Engineering, and Model Based Product Support (MBPS). But it’s worth noting that the military is moving forward, rapidly adopting AI, with the release of NIPRGPT, AI Agents and workflow automation, Generative AI powered predictive maintenance tools, Ghost ships, autonomous and collaborative aircraft, underwater systems, vehicles, and robotics. We are also now seeing widespread deployment of AI-enabled battlefield management systems by companies like Palantir Technologies. It’s important to stay up to date with all the latest military doctrine for AI, and security and implementation regulations. No worries, in our courses we include the information you need to stay current on the AI Transformation, from models, tools, AI Agents, the data fabric, and how CM fits into the AI framework.
CM Standards are lagging behind the times. It will take at least three years before you see guidance on applying CM to AI models and Agents in your CMDB in the next standard update. Always out in front, we provide the solutions you need, for the digital and AI transformation, right now, in every CMTF course.
We are excited to introduce a new course XCM-609: AI & Model Configuration Management, featuring the Level VII CAMCM Certification – Certified AI & Model Configuration Manager. This advanced course also serves as a Certification Refresher for all existing credentials, ensuring Configuration Managers and professionals remain current in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. Building on the five core functions of CM, the course expands the CM Framework to address best practices for AI and Digital Modeling within MBSE, Manufacturing, and MBPS. Participants will learn to manage configuration baselines, changes, and traceability in a fully digital, model-centric engineering environment. The program emphasizes rigorous control of all digital artifacts—models, data, documents, and simulations—ensuring they remain version-controlled, traceable, and consistently aligned across the entire system lifecycle.
The pace at which digital and physical AI and robotics are advancing for both commercial and military applications is staggering—spanning AI Agents, LLMs, World AI, autonomous systems, and robotics. All of these technologies must be Configuration Managed, placed under control, and maintained with complete traceability. For the CM domain and its practitioners, staying current with these initiatives is critical. Yet, the reality is that CM Standards often lag 3–5 years behind due to lengthy update cycles. This is where our new course steps in.
In this program, you will explore new principles governing CM within the Digital Thread workflow, including the role of the CMDB and the authoritative Single Source of Truth (SSOT). You will learn how CM applies downstream in Systems Engineering, within the Smart Factory for modern manufacturing needs, and upstream in Product Support. Additionally, the course will teach you how to develop CM AI Agents to support the preparation and review of CM Plans and procedures, and how to integrate AI into CSAS and Data Management—ensuring CM practices evolve in step with today’s rapidly changing digital environment.
Our instructors are what really sets CMTF apart from all the other CM training organizations. John M. Roberts is the only Level 5 Pre-Eminent Advisor for CM and DM. All our instructors have a minimum of 30 years hands-on CM experience. You will leave our courses with confidence, knowing you have the tools to implement CM. And we also prepare you for the future changes impacting CM. In our courses, you will gain the skills to plan, assess, and implement a comprehensive CM program; conduct a CM Health Assessment; prepare and execute a CM Strategy and Way Ahead; identify and select Configuration Items; apply effective change management practices; visualize actionable data through CSA dashboards; and perform rigorous Verification inspections and Configuration Audits.
We are constantly updating our courses and adding new CM Tracks and Certifications to reflect today's rapidly changing environment. All our courses cover CM impacts from the latest initiatives such as Agile, DevOps, Industry 4.0, Virtualization, Security-Focused CM, Logistics 4.0, the Digital Thread, Continuous Transformation and Artificial Intelligence.
Launching in 2026, our in-house developed Digital Twin CM Training Environment will be available for Beta use that same year. Once complete, this immersive virtual world will complement our courses by enabling students to learn CM principles and practice CM implementation at their own pace. Through realistic, simulated environments that mirror the real world, learners will be able to progress step by step, applying concepts in context while reinforcing skills. This innovative platform will serve as a powerful extension of our training, providing a dynamic, hands-on environment that supports all of our CM courses.
CMTF’s curriculum is grounded in real-world execution, not abstract theory. Whether you're modernizing legacy systems or architecting AI-enabled CM ecosystems, CMTF equips you with the tools, insights, and credibility to lead. We understand the work environment and our programs are designed to do more with less time. We quickly mentor CM managers and specialists in a few courses, including new hires. These days, people no longer work their way up the ranks of an organization. Frequently, they are thrown in the CM Manager or Specialist job with very little experience. I see this every day in my classes.
All CMTF CM & DM course offerings and Certification Programs are now available through Virtual Training
Virtual Training classes are conducted live, not a recording. Our lead instructors, Mr. John M. Roberts, Level Five Preeminent Advisor CM & DM, and SME Mr. Steve Sigmon, with over 30 years experience, will be your host instructors. You receive the same course material and handouts, lecture, certification, and motivating experience our customers have come to expect. We have taught over 1,000 classes in 20 countries. This means our instructors can answer your questions. And because of our level of experience, we are able to pass on relevant real world knowledge of CM tools, process implementation, assessments, improvement, and how to implement the latest technology and initiatives. All this makes for an engaged learning experience, and this is what sets CMTF apart from the others.
An initial schedule of Virtual Training classes has been posted. Due to the overwhelming response, additional Virtual Training classes will be posted shortly for the fall. As expected, we have received very positive feedback on our virtual training. For students already on course waiting lists or impacted by rescheduling, you will be notified in the coming days concerning the new schedule. Upon registration, we will provide you with complete instructions for participating in our Virtual Training classes and taking the certification exams. The process is very simple and easy to follow. Virtual Training classes for the USA are scheduled between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM EST. New Virtual Training classes for Australia, Fall 2020, will also be posted soon.
These are unusual times, and it is not certain when things will return to the way there were. Travel restrictions and social distancing have us looking at different ways to continue our lives and work. CMTF will resume In-Person courses as soon as that is possible. For now, Virtual Training is a good solution for both open Public Classes, and On-Site training.
